Show: Occupy The Hood

Host: Almitra Gasper

Showtime: Thursdays @ 7pm(ET)

Almitra Gasper, CLC, is a dedicated community organizer and project/event planner. She is driven by her passions for health, music, and community. Raised in a church in the St. Albans community, Almitra ran three youth choirs at 16 years-old. After finishing college and running Music On Myrtle, her own music retail store in Brooklyn for three years, she felt compelled to return to her native home in St. Albans, Queens to improve her community’s physical and economic health. Entering the endeavor of motherhood gave her the opportunity to experience first-hand how she could support pregnant and nursing mothers. She now gives her time working as a peer-counselor for low-income mothers in her community. Her training in business and strong foundation in family and community life enables her vision of a sustainable neighborhood to raise her sons. Almitra helped her local development organization to win funding to have a local artist paint a new mural in the neighborhood. She volunteers her time organizing clean-up events and health fairs with the Farmers Blvd CDC, a group of community-based individuals donating their time to revitalize Farmers Blvd. She currently keeps a blog souldr3000.wordpress.com, where she writes about her journey to ensure food justice for infants and toddlers in her community.
