Glen Ford

Glen Ford has been a journalist and political activist – a provider of “information for liberation,” as he puts it – for over 40 years.  Starting as a newsman for James Brown’s radio station in Augusta, Georgia, Ford created the first syndicated Black radio news magazine (“Black World Report” – 1971); the first syndicated Black news interview program on commercial TV (“America’s Black Forum” – 1977); the five daily syndicated shows of “Black Agenda [radio] Reports” (1979); the first nationally syndicated Hip Hop music show (“Rap It Up” – 1987); and co-published BlackCommentator.com (2002) and BlackAgendaReport.com (2006). 

In between, Ford has served as a White House, Capitol Hill and State Department correspondent and Washington Bureau Chief (Mutual Black Network – 1974), authored a book on the U.S. invasion of Grenada (“The Big Lie” – 1985); was national political columnist for Encore American and Worldwide News – 1978); served as editor or reporter for three newspapers; founded two print magazines; worked at numerous local radio stations; spoken at scores of colleges and universities; and voiced and/or produced over 1000 broadcast commercials.

Ford was a founding member of the Washington Association of Black Journalists and a member of the executive committee of the National Alliance of Third World Journalists.
