Dr. Grayson received his Ph.D. from Boston University and a Postdoctoral Certificate in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy from four years of training at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in New York City. He is the Founder and is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies in New York, a postgraduate training institute chartered by the Board of Regent in New York State. He also founded and is Director of the Center for Spirituality and Psychotherapy and is theFounder and past President of the Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy. He was the Resident Psychologist on the Weight Watchers Magazine Show, hosted by Lynn Redgrave and aired 5 times a week nationally on Lifetime Cable, and was the Founder and Director of the American Eating Disorders Center for 20 years.
Prior to graduate school in psychology, he took a Masters degree in theology at Emory University and was a protestant minister for four years in Massachusetts prior to attending Boston University for his Ph.D. Immediately following his Ph.D. he became an Assistant and then Associate Professor in the City University of New York for eight years while starting his practice.
He is the co-author of three professional books: Three Psychotherapies: A Clinical Comparison, Short Term Approaches to Psychotherapy, and Changing Approaches to the Psychotherapies. More recently, he recorded a 91Ž2 hour, 6-tape audio series for Sounds True, The New Physics of Love: The Power of Mind and Spirit in Relationships. He is also the author of Mindful Loving: 10 Practices to Deepen Your Connections. (Gotham Books/The Penguin Group), which was featured in Oprah's Magazine. His new book, Use Your Body to Heal Your Mind: The Mindset Behind Illness and Revolutionary New Ways to Take Control of Your Health and Healing will be released by Hay House in January 2012.
Dr Grayson has studied Eastern and Western philosophies, the New Physics, the new brain scan studies, and has studied,practiced and taught most of the major psychotherapies, such as cognitive, behavioral, hypnosis, bio energetic feedback and the new "power therapies" such as EMDR, Emotional Freedom Techniques, (EFT), Tapas Acupressure Technique, and Thought Field Therapy, and integrates them into the practice of Synergetic Psychotherapy in New York City and in Connecticut. He lectures and teaches widely, across the United States and abroad.
He is a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, a Diplomat of the American Board of Professional Psychology, aDiplomat of the American Board of Psychotherapy, a member of the American Psychological Association, the New York State Psychological Assn., the Connecticut Psychological Association, the Association for Transpersonal Psychology, the Institute for Noetic Sciences, The International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine, EMDR International Association, a Diplomat of the Association for Comprehensive Psychology, and was the Founder and Past President of the Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy.
His current service includes active roles as a Board Member and Co-Chair of the Education Committee of The Global Health Institute (for transforming the force of healthcare), and is Co-Chair of the PTSD Committee of the Stand for Your Troops Foundation, dedicated to providing adequate methods to clearing traumas of returning service men and women
