For more than a quarter century, Michael Toms has been engaging in dialogue with the world's leading-edge thinkers, social architects, creative artists, scientists and spiritual teachers. During his twenties he rose to become one of the top advertising copywriters in the nation and started the first direct marketing ad agency on the west coast as well as founding six other corporations. Following his advertising career, he conceived and presented the widely acclaimed nationwide seminar series, "Successful Communications and Marketing Techniques for the Nonprofit Organization," which was attended by more than 10,000 individuals representing over 6,000 socially relevant organizations. Revenues generated from this seminar series provided financial support during the startup phase of New Dimensions Foundation and New Dimensions Radio.
He is the founding president of New Dimensions Foundation, co-founder of New Dimensions Radio and the New Dimensions World Broadcasting Network, currently serving as CEO and co-president. He serves as the executive producer and principal host of the award-winning "New Dimensions" internationally syndicated radio series. He is the executive producer and co-host of Wisdom Radio's "Classic New Dimensions," heard 6X daily on the worldwide web and on Sirius Satellite Radio. He served as executive producer / host of the award winning Deep Ecology for the 21st Century series and the Bioneers / Revolution from the Heart of Nature I,II, and III series, which received the prestigious NY International Radio Festival Silver and Bronze Medals.
He is a former director of KQED, Inc., was a founding director of KZYX / KZYZ FM, and a co-founder and executive director of Audio Independents, Inc., a national organization supporting the interests of independent radio producers and audio artists. He is an accredited member of The Society of Professional Journalists and The Society of Environmental Journalists.
His nationally acclaimed book, An Open Life: Joseph Campbell in Conversation with Michael Toms, has sold more than two hundred thousand copies. Seventeen additional books based on his interviews have been published, including The Well of Creativity, The Soul of Business, The Power of Meditation and Prayer, Buddhism in the West and At the Leading Edge. More than one million of his diverse dialogues have been sold to individual listeners on cassette and CD throughout the world.
He has received numerous awards for his broadcast endeavors, including two honorary doctorates for his vanguard work in media and a doctorate in theology from St. Basil the Great Seminary in Sydney, Australia for his "contribution to the spiritual benefit of humanity on the planet." He is an adjunct professor at Union Graduate School and Marylhurst Graduate School of Business and is board chairman emeritus of the California Institute of Integral Studies. A writer, seminar leader, communications, marketing, fundraising consultant and master dialogue coach, he has worked with literally hundreds of organizations in both the social profit and private sectors. He also served for seven years as senior acquisitions editor for HarperSanFrancisco where he midwifed more than 50 titles, including several bestsellers, and worked with such authors as Sogyal Rinpoche, Larry Dossey, M.D., Joseph Chilton Pearce, Peter Russell, Jean Houston, Arnold Mindell, Deena Metzger and others. From 1998 to 2000 he was an editor of The Inner Edge, the much acclaimed and award winning newsletter for enlightened business practice. He is co-author with his partner, Justine Willis Toms, of True Work: Doing What You Love and Loving What You Do (Bell Tower/Crown) and is the author of the bestselling A Time for Choices: Deep Dialogues for Deep Democracy (New Society Publishers).
Justine Toms
Justine Willis Toms is the co-founder and co-president New Dimensions World Broadcasting Network and New Dimensions Radio both are projects of New Dimensions Foundation. Since 1973 she has worked with many of the leading edge thinkers, social innovators and visionaries of our time. Her keen interest in non-traditional education and innovative learning techniques has helped to create the natural ambiance and engaging style of "New Dimensions" broadcast programming and cassette tapes.
She serves as Editor-In-Chief of the New Dimensions Newsletter and the New Dimensions Annual Journal, both are national publications based on the work of New Dimensions Radio, which reaches 30,000 readers nationwide.
She is a workshop leader facilitating others to find and live their passion. Circle work has been part of her life and interest for over twenty-five years. She leads workshops on circle work and inspires the forming of circles world wide. She serves on the Board of Advisors of the Alliance for Transforming the Lives of Children and serves on the Board of Directors of the Process Work Center of Portland, Oregon.
She is co-author with her husband Michael Toms of True Work: Doing What You Love and Loving What You Do.
