Remembering Bagua

Anna Luisa Daigneault is an anthropologist, musician and activist from Montreal. She documents endangered indigenous oral history and music in the Peruvian Amazon. Her first film, http://rememberingbagua.blogspot.com/ Remembering Bagua, made with visual artist Bronwen Moen, focuses on the massacre that took place in Bagua, Peru, where indigenous activists protested government laws that allow oil and gas companies to enter the Amazon region without adequately consulting the indigenous people.

The struggle that Anna documents is hardly unique to Peru, but a global one. Her film and work raises the question of how those of us living near and far from oil producing regions can help transition humanity from our http://dailycensored.com/2011/02/07/oilpocalypse-now-%C2%AD-beneath-the-surface/ deadly addiction to oil.
