Evolving Ideas - 04/06/10

As a Fulbright scholar, attorney Larry King, traveled to Islamabad, Pakistan for the US Govt, where he instituted offender work programs, inmate literacy and drug programs to help them find peacable resolution to differing opinions.

He found that indigenous peoples of the world have much to teach us about problem-solving. Native Americans, tribes around the world, as well as in all nationalities, families, communities and schools, diverse opinions can boil.

Larry's mission is to make a difference in a world of diverse ideas by engaging primitive principles of equity to gain a community of respect and camaderie. Larry King's resolution style is based on listening, using
such tools as the talking stick for those who have difficulty expressing themselves. To be heard may be one of our greatest needs. Knowing someone cares is important. How we handle conflict is the key to peaceful resolution.

Certainly, families, youth groups, companies and neighbors can benefit from listening to this show. Gathering together in a quest to honor differing points of view is a good place to start.

The conversaton will be insightful and entertaining as Jean tells us of how we can better understand ourselves.

Thanks for your great shows, Elaine... I never know what to expect with your segments, but usually very much appreciate them. As with attorney Larry King, on your last show.

There was a thread near the end of this which struck a deep cord for me--

"certain tiny element of crazed ____ people"
"element that really does want violence"
"small portion of humanity that really likes it"
"love this stuff, absolutely thrive on it"
"How do we deal with that?"
"something we better face up to"

"... point of reference to realize you know..."
"methodology... active movement in the right direction"
"action...."

Elaine! Which other than personalities like yours, can nurture a movement like this?

Mentioned approaches like the Australian resolution projects/ indigenous/ Australia
lawyers-further corroborative law /domestic relations
A revolution of thinking... required... regarding the way we are going...

True that might be for court mandated treatments, after convictions of, perhaps violating a law, (new, needed law) of inciting violence specifically through products of commerce (as with sadistic video game violence). Has much 'mind experimentation' gone into this trend of dialog? How to legislate against violent-premeditation specifically within commerce?

One more thought added by this email:

Why not something like the 'temperance movement' which resulted in alcohol beverage regulations? A movement for regulation on violence programing in all commercial products? After all is it not a crazed addiction to violence and essentially to overthrow civil tranquility? With all sorts of psychological manifestations, treatable with various disciplines? (Heaven forbid the "Clockwork Orange variety" ;-)

Appreciative listener,

Bo Atkinson
