Just in time for Mother's Day, Ma Nature is conspiring to get America to wake up and smell the carbon! Between record tornados and flooding that are taking lives, and livelihoods, the conservative dominance in mainstream media talk shows mocking climate activists, and several 'climate converts' sharing their powerful stories on The Green Front, the time has come for all of us to speak up and speak out. Susan and Roger Shamel join me to explain why they went from Republicans not concerned about global warming to founding GWEN, The Global Warming Education Network! Next, a true believer - since the tender age of twelve - Alec Loorz joins me to discuss the lawsuit filed today to protect children's' rights to a stable climate and about the matter rallies taking place worldwide this Sunday!

After venturing into the belly of the beast with an appearance on Sean Hannity's show, we do post-mortems on the insanity and inanity that prevails on these extremist right wing shows. We'll start with powerful comments from D.R. Tucker, the conservative columnist who had a "climate conversion" after learning more about the science.. Hear why DR Tucker could hold the prescription for getting fellow Republicans to wake up and smell the carbon. Next, Bill Twist, co-founder of The Pachamama Alliance, and Mari Margil, with the Global Alliance For The Rights of Nature, will explain why their movement is gaining steam and not to be mocked. Last, Jocelyn Fong, with Media Matters helps analyze the damage that Hannity and his friends cause - as the glaciers melt and storms swirl...

On this, the one year observance of the BP oil rig explosion, we look back on "the year of living recklessly" with LG Holdstein, senior director of strategic planning for Environmental Defense Fund. Explosions, spills and meltdowns - oh my - where do we go from here? In our second half we'll hear highlights from this weekend's Power Shift 2011 conference in D.C. where thousands of young climate activists gathered to get engaged in the battle of their generation. Listen to the empowering words of Green For All's Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins and 350.org's Bill McKibben.

Author, climate activist and predictor of ecological catastrophes, Mike Tidwell, joins me on The Green Front to explain what prompted a recent article about preparing for he worst. Tidwell is so concerned about energy shortages and coming climate chaos that he purchased an electric generator for his home, as well as new locks, a basement garden and learning how to use a gun. Tidwell is no alarmist but he shares what he fears may be not so distant future scenarios. Next up, "The Tactics of Hope", by Wilford Welch, about social entrepreneurs and why they give this former diplomat hope that we can make the transition to sustainability.

The Green Front goes remote for this show, reporting from the Fortune Brainstorm Green Conference in Laguna Niguel, California. This is the 4th annual Green gathering put on by Fortune with corporate executives and sustainability directors from Fortune 500 companies convening to learn and share best practices on climate, energy and water issues, to name a few. First up we'll get a conference overview from Fortune Editor-at-large, David Whitfield  and Time Magazine's Environmental Reporter, Bryan Walsh. Then a chat with the Dean of Green Design, William McDonough and co-author of Cradle-to-Cradle.

Within minutes of hearing President Obama's energy speech today, climate blogger Joseph Romm weighs in with his impressions (not impressed!), and also to share his views on nuclear power's future (dim) in the wake of the triple disaster in Japan. Also hot off the press, California Senator Joe Simitian - who is 'aglow' with yesterday's passage of his groundbreaking renewable energy bill which will require the Golden State to get a third of its power from renewable (non-nuclear) energy sources by 2020 - weighs in on the current state of environmental politics. Last, but not least, Bill Shireman, CEO of Global 500, shares what's wrong with current proposals to address climate change and why another approach is needed!

As the Japanese nuclear crisis continues to unfold we'll hear from an organization that is calling for a moratorium on all nuclear reactors in the permitting or planning stages. Dr. Alan Lockwood is a Board Member of Physicians For Social Responsibility who says there is no safe level of radiation contamination and the perfect storm of a disaster in Japan should be a wake up call to anyone believing nuclear power to be a safe and viable form of energy production. Next, we'll meet Matthew Stein, an MIT graduate and author of When Technology Fails: A Manual for Self-Reliance, Sustainability and Surviving The Long Emergency. Hear why he believes we need an Egypt-like popular uprising to turn the eco-tide and what's needed to survive catastrophe.

In the wake of the still escalating nuclear disaster in Japan it would be easy to find anti nuclear activists calling for the need to stop production and permitting of nuclear plants. While that may be needed, we'll hear from a former nuclear opponent turned advocate and hear why she is not overly concerned about the fallout from this catastrophe. Gwyneth Cravens is the author of Power To Save The World - The Truth About Nuclear Energy. Cravens explains why the events of the past week have not changed her view that nuclear power is needed to meet energy demands and avoid further climate change, despite mounting safety concerns. We'll get a different perspective from our second guest, Osprey Orielle Lake, author of Uprisings For The Earth, Reconnecting Culture with Nature.

Plastic sushi anyone? Not likely on the menu at your favorite sushi  spot but our first guest has seen it and has made it her life's work to stop plastic pollution in the ocean.

Anna Cummins, who along with her partner Dr.. Marcus Erickson, started "Five Gyres", is about to set sail for Gyre Number 5 to bring worldwide attention to the plight of marine life, and ultimately humans, posed by the plethora of plastic pollution. One of the stops will be Easter Island, perhaps ironic, notes Cummins?

Next, we'll speak with Michelle Chan, Director of Economic Policy at Friends of the Earth, about the shortsightedness of legislators about to cut spending on environmental initiatives, including provisions under the Clean Air and Water Acts!

Fasten your safety belt as we re-enter the 'hard truths zone' in our continuing series on adapting to Peak Oil realities. First up, Andre Angelantoni, President of Post Peak Living Institute. Andre will share his views about coming eco shock and why he believes we should all be preparing for a tougher future NOW. His provocative views, while alarming, are based on studying history and current energy realities so if you pride yourself on being informed, listen up - it's later than we think! While Andre would advise us to cancel the family vacation and save for coming necessities, our next guest - also a realist - John De Graaf, will tell us why we should plan some down time. The creator of Affluenza and Take Back Our Time! does not question stark ecological indicators but he does offer a prescription for the transition; more community connections!

I am devoting several programs to the topic of Preparing For Peak Oil in the wake of hearing two presentations on the topic that shocked even this battle-weary environmental journalist. First up on The Green Front is Asher Miller, Executive Director of The Post Carbon Institute. We'll talk about what to expect now that the national debt has far exceeded GDP and our demand for oil is quickly outpacing our ability to sustain consumption. Buckle up, this show - and subject matter - are not for the weak of heart nor meek of mind!

As yet another record-breaking 'blizzaster' grips the east coast AND beyond, climate blogger, Joseph Romm and I wonder aloud what it will take to get America to notice Ma Nature is trying to tell us something - it's later than we think! The winds are howling, snow piling up, travel at a standstill and Australia is also in the midst of a record setting category 5 storm with winds up 200 mph. Blizzards, tornados and floods, oh my! What's a concerned citizen to do? Start a Green Tea Party I say... Next we'll serve up some raw food to go with that green tea. A champion of the raw, vegan movement will join me to wax enthusiastic about the planet-loving pleasures of a plant based diet - or as I like to call it - the "live-it"!

Elizabeth Kolbert, award-winning environmental journalist for New Yorker magazine, joins me on The Green Front. We'll discuss the President's SOTU address and speculate on why neither the word 'climate' nor 'carbon' were mentioned. Elizabeth talks about her latest book on extinction, five years after her groundbreaking book, "Field Notes From A Catastrophe". In our second half we'll take a lighter turn and meet the founder of BRA, The Bra Recycling Agency. Kathleen Kirkwood will tell us why women should not burn their bras, or throw them into the landfill. We'll learn how to recycle them instead and why recycled bras may be in the red carpet at this year's Oscars. The envelope please?

This week The Green Front comes to you from San Diego where I am attending a week long retreat at The Optimum Health Institute. The program is a raw food/juice cleanse detox with daily colonics. The curriculum is based on the transformative health benefits of eating a plant-based diet and incorporating mental and emotional detoxification methods. We'll meet two OHI "missionaries" who have seemingly healed themselves of Stage 4 cancer. Kirsten Schulz is a 42 year-old psychologist whose doctors said chemo was her only chance of living. But she came here instead. Her breast tumor had spread to other organs but after several months on this program it has gone back into her breast only and on the way out of her body, Kirsten is convinced. You'll also hear the amazing story of Peg Harvey-Sweeney who was told to get her affairs in order after a cancer diagnosis. Instead she came here and says she is cancer free!

How did an author of history novels go from writing about past events to MAKING history? We'll find out from Colin Beavan, aka No Impact Man, who spent a year - along with his small family - sharply reducing their ecological impact to near zero. What prompted such a radical undertaking and how did a journey so many expected to be futile turn out to be fulfilling? Colin's mission was to learn how to reduce waste of materials but learned how to not waste precious moments. He'll tell us how his family's quest to reduce garbage helped them discover an abundance of gratitude.

The always knowledgeable author, speaker and consultant is optimistic, despite setbacks in climate legislation, that 2011 will bring progress on the green front! In the second half we replay my appearance this week on Sean Hannity's  TV program and recap how I went in search of intelligent life on the Fox network - and came up empty!
