Japan Nuclear Disaster: When Will We Ever Learn?

For years scientists and anti-nuclear activists have been warning about the dangers of nuclear power plants and the serious risk of fallout if these pants are damaged by earthquakes, explosions or human error. Once damage occurs, the results are deadly.

In the wake of Japan’s 8.9 earthquake at least four reactors and maybe as many as six have been damaged. Radiation is leaking into the atmosphere and the cooling systems at the reactors are not working. The government is trying desperately to discover another way to get water cover to the nuclear rods and keep them cool, but if this does not succeed nuclear meltdown is likely.

Harvey Wasserman a longtime voice in the anti-nuclear movement discusses the potential impact of the Japanese nuclear disaster on Japan and the world, including the lack of vision of that led to the building of these dangerous plants throughout the world, and how a similar nuclear disaster could befall to Southern and Central California if a 8.9 quake were to strike and compromise the Diablo Canyon and San Onfre nuclear power plants.
