Marvin D. Seppala, MD, is chief medical officer at Hazelden and oversees all interdisciplinary clinical practices for their residential and nonresidential addiction treatment programs and services. He obtained his M.D. at Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota, serving his residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in addiction at University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis. Seppala is author of Clinician's Guide to the Twelve Step Principles, McGraw-Hill/Hazelden, 2002 and co-authored When Painkillers Become Dangerous, Hazelden Publishing, 2004 and Pain-Free Living for Drug-Free People, Hazelden Publishing 2005. Seppala is a board member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and a national expert on addiction treatment, has appeared on the CBS-TV "Early Show" and National Public Radio, and is quoted in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA TodayNewsweek and The Wall Street Journalwww.hazelden.org
