Occupy Wall Street: "Nothing achieving nothing." --MCR
You're exactly right, Mike. Thanks for a great reinforcing show, and elluminating the structure of correct focus.
Although I agree with Mike about Occupy Wall Street's lack of demands or focusing on the right issues, it would have been nice for him to at least show a little more enthusiasm that people are so fed up across the nation now that they are taking it to the streets. I don't care how deluded they are or their message to be honest with you (at least in this early stage). The fact that so many people, not just here in NYC, but across the country are on the streets protesting financial corruption is a great thing! Personally, I don't feel as alone anymore... Seeing what's going on gives me hope. Hopefully, this will evolve over time and truly become an organized, articulate movement, calling for the change you wish to see Mike. At least give it a chance to evolve into something, instead of killing it before it gets out of the gate... You and Alex Jones do agree on something here though!
I agree with you John! It is bad that no clear demand has been declared in this movement but at the same time, it gets our attention. Now it is up to us who know more about how things work to spread our knowledge to other other disinformed. Are WE cowards or will WE (the informed) act??
I don't see that Mike has made any attempt to, "kill" anything concerning "Occupy Wall Street". He's just pointing out some things concerning it, utilizing his passed experiences concerning protest movements. He's noticed a long standing pattern, and pointed it out. He's stated that he is carfully keeping track of what's going on there.
He's being wisely cautious in his advice. Mike has a lot of experience with jumping on bandwagons, enthusiastically, hopefully, and he's seen the longer term end result. Names get taken, photos taken, names end up on a list, lots of opinions bantied about, then 20 years later,...nothing has come of any hoped for change or some various new rules have come into play, but the infinate growth paradigm remains the philosphy, and the root cause of so many problems around the world remain unaddressed.
I feel, most anyone on collapsenet wants to begin to address some of these protesters, or go to the protest, get in on some of that attempting to bring focus on collapsenet issues and concerns "collapse/building lifeboats,/peak oil, etc...they are free to do so. I have personally been inspired by the protests to double down on my own lifeboat building, and preparations.
Amy Goodman consistently reports the news no one else will touch. Yet, NPR puts her on at two A. M. She is an important source for those who want to be informed.
Unfortunately, she has people like Chomski on for a whole hour to explain how we "made the Arabs" do 9/11. Crossing the Rubicon proves that it was NOT Arabs. Why don't you go the additional step and explain how if it wasn't Muslims it must be .... Or have you signed a loyalty oath just like our politicians?
Lenny, I like Amy Goodman, too, and watch her often as she has some interesting coverage on little known goings-on, but your mention of her guest, Chomski, as an example, answers your own question as to whether she is getting to the root of the problem, as opposed to identifying and treating many sysptoms.
The only thing this 'Occupy Wall Street' fiasco is going to accomplish is tighter restrictions, more surveillance and a bigger arsenal for the official Defenders of Freedom. I guess a lot of folks must enjoy that sorta thing, or they wouldn't be cheering this on!
Wow. I'm so disappointed that you just don't get it about #occupywallstreet. I lol at the idea that their big main goal ought to be: changing how money works. Every single person in Manhattan could camp on Wall Street and that wouldn't happen. And a true as it may be that the way money works is what is killing us all, this is a big deal what's going on. People are fed up and not taking it anymore. A reaction to collapse is happening before your eyes and you're missing the boat on this one just like the rest of the lame stream media.
Not a thing that really matters is going to really change until it has to; we all know that the people with the ability to make real-deal changes benefit way too much from the way things work at present to really rock the (ever-faster-sinking) boat. There is Ron Paul... too bad he's a fucking evolution-denying fundamentalist.
You gotta love this #OccupyEverywhere nonsense; let's all camp out in the bitter cold in front of the money-factories of our super-wealthy sociopathic overlords while adhering to strict nonviolence, that impotent ideal of that ridiculous half-nutcase Gandhi which we must cherish like frightened narrow-minded fools - that'll show 'em!
Really, though, forget about getting one's civilian self arrested and imprisoned trying to really shake things up. I'll tell you what really needs to happen: the POLICE and MILITARY violently turn on their craven corporate masters. That would be the glorious day, so long as the Pigs and GI Joes didn't become a new breed of tyrannical all-powerful nutcases, though most cops are almost already there as it is.
Whatever. The ship's going down real fucking soon, re-fucking-gardless, and there appears to be all but zero chance of anything like efficient or effective or orderly transition on anything beyond the most pitifully, helplessly local scale. Bingo.
I am ashamed of and astonished at everyone who acquiesced to the assrape for so long and let things get as awful and ugly and false and inhuman as they are now. You're all a bunch of fucking idiots!
Hindsight is 20/20 for most people, nicefarmer. It is what it is. Glad you got all THAT off you're chest. Feel better now? At collapsenet, we mostly know that it's all going down, anyway, and are mainly working to spread the word as best as possable so others can use some of their time remaining to connect with others, buy and store some essentials, buy a hoe, a shovel, what have you, and get ready to brace themselves, a little.
It helps nothing much to recoil and spit venom, although mostly it's an understandable response. You sound like your in a panic. It's possable you'd be better off if you find a way to keep cool, keep your wits about you, and go work in your garden.
Too bad there's no "like' button. Nicefarmer always says the coolest shit!
@kym... "We Need To Change The Way Money Works" is an official Ruppertism. There can be no other truth.
Say My Fucking Name
I can't stand by and let someone who can't spell "possible" or differentiate between "your" and "you're", or really anyone else for that matter, try to smarmily tell to me about the reality of my own internal landscape. I'm far from "in a panic", my small boy; I actually take perverse delight in what is taking place. And like the vast majority of 20-somethings in this national adult playpen I do not have a garden or land or spare change for tools and other big-boy "preps" like you, a fact that you spiritually superconscious post-petroleum neo-humans of the Movement for the Restoration of the Four Collapsenet Compass Points of God seem real eagerly apt to forget just before going on to revisit that fun old chestnut about getting armed to the goddamned teeth and blowing all no-land non-gardening non-Collapsenet members away in a hail of Spirit-guided gunfire.
My advice for you, though, is to continue devoting yourself to studying and living more and more in the light of Mike's magnum opus, Farming the Apocalypse: A Zombie's Guide to Inner-City Vegetable Gardening (thanks friendly neighborhood D. Foster). L-O-SIDESPLITTING-L
LOL! As stated before, nicefarmer, You're in a panic, alright, and hyper nit-picky, to boot. You focus on my typo's (I didn't bother to proof read before hitting the submit button) yet I notice you actually understood what I said.
As for what you've written? "Cool shit", it may or may not be offers nothing useful, so I'll leave you to your, cool self.
Side note: Jim Morrison ( a slow camper) Talented, but he self-destructed in a very easily predictable manner.
^ "Jim Morrison [was]... a slow camper".
You're a fucking nutcase, and vituperative truth-soaked humor is extremely useful... and fun for everyone!
"slow camper" ... Yet another zombie Ruppertism. Makes ya wonder if they're even ABLE to think for themselves!
