How to be fueled vegan style!  That right - run a marathon or an Ultraman powered by plants.

Guest Rich Roll is a man of many hats – a wellness advocate on behalf of plant-based nutrition; an entertainment attorney; and a husband and father of 4 children currently writing his memoir FINDING ULTRA

But most of all, he is a passionate and inspirational ultra-endurance athlete

Some of Rich's accomplishments:

In May 2010, Rich and his colleague Jason Lester completed something they call the EPIC5 CHALLENGE –  5 ironman-distance triathlons on 5 islands of Hawaii in under a week.

Rich has been a top finisher at the 2008 and 2009 Ultraman World Championships in Hawaii. Considered by many to be one of world’s most daunting and grueling endurance races on the planet, Ultraman is a 3-day / 320 mile double-ironman distance triathlon.

But just prior to these accomplishments a the age 40, Richard was close to 50 pounds overweight and completely out of shape.  It was time for a major life change .To celebrate his 40th birthday as well as his 10th anniversary in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, in 2006 he overhauled his diet, became a dedicated vegan, put on his running shoes and jumped back into sports.

How do you get fit even if you're unfit! And if you are fit, how do you get a whole lot fitter!

Gordo Byrn

His athletic accomplishments are many but he believes they are secondary to what makes him an effective coach and mentor. He believes the most relevant part of his athletic background is his journey from an obese “finance guy” to an elite athlete. How do you get fit even if you're unfit! He has studied under the leading coaches in the endurance world including: Scott MolinaJohn HellemansDave ScottMark Allen and Joe Friel

Athletic Highlights:

  • Ultraman World Champion (2002)
  • Multiple podium finishes at international races (2003/2004/2005/2006)
